About Vinalies

This competition is the only wine and spirits-tasting event in the world formally recognized by the International Union of Oenologists (UIOE), the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), and the World Federation of International Wines and Spirits Competitions (VinoFed).  Vinalies is consequently the only competition to be governed by the strict rules and principles of these governing bodies.  These rules are based on blind taste testing and a methodology that ensures the measurement of excellence untainted by commercial interests.

The 2005 edition of the contest drew 2,620 entries from 36 countries.  The juries were formed from 137 international experts from 32 countries the great majority of whom are oenologists.

Each sample is tasted blind by a panel composed of 7 palates, 2 French and 5 from the rest of the world, with diverse gustatory affinities.  The score and comments are given in real-time by each taster and are followed by a consensus by the whole panel under the eye of a panel Chairperson.

The only award categories are gold and silver.

The Certificate that accompanies Gold Medals states "Grand Prix d'Excellence - Vinalies - Œnologues de France".
